On 31st January 2020, the United States Government announced the suspension of issuance of immigrant visas to applicants from Nigeria, Eritrea, Myanmar, Tanzania, Sudan and Kyrgyzstan. The extension of the Visa restriction to the aforementioned countries was contained in the “Proclamation on Improving Enhanced Vetting Capabilities and Processes for Detecting Attempted Entry” signed by the President of the United States of America and was premised on alleged inability of the Governments of the affected countries to share needed identity-management information, provide national security and public-safety information and generally pass the security and public-safety risk assessment.
