Getting married to a Nigerian could be both intriguing and socially beneficial. Aside from the perceived warmth often associated with such union, foreign spouses of Nigerians could be granted permanent residence, special status, citizenship and other immigration recognitions in Nigeria on the basis of their marriage. The Nigerian Immigration Act 2015 and the Nigerian Immigration Regulations 2017 govern the residence of migrants in Nigeria and confer various statuses to non-Nigerians seeking to visit or reside in Nigeria depending on the purpose of their visits or residence. One key immigration recognition granted non- Nigerians is the privilege to be issued a Residence Visa or Residence Permit by reason of marriage to a Nigerian.
